Shark Attacks in South Padre Island Leave Multiple Victims Hospitalized

Four reported incidents on Independence Day

Three victims hospitalized, one with severe leg injury

South Padre Island, Texas - At least three people were hospitalized after separate shark attacks that occurred on the Fourth of July holiday weekend. According to local authorities, four individuals encountered sharks while swimming in the waters off the island.

One person sustained severe injuries, including a deep bite to the leg. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. Three other individuals also suffered injuries and were hospitalized, but their conditions are not believed to be life-threatening.

The shark attacks, which are described as extremely rare, have disrupted Fourth of July celebrations on the island. First responders from the South Padre Island police and fire departments are on the scene, and the waters have been closed to swimmers.

Local authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attacks and have not yet identified the species of sharks involved. They are advising swimmers to be cautious and avoid the water in the affected areas.
