Ex Post Office Boss Eyed For London Bishop Position

Newsflash: Former Post Office CEO Shortlisted for Bishop Role

Ex-Post Office Boss Eyed for London Bishop Position

Vennells Made Shortlist Despite Horizon Scandal Involvement

In an unexpected turn of events, Paula Vennells, the former CEO of the Post Office who was embroiled in the Horizon scandal, has been shortlisted to become Bishop of London.

Ms. Vennells served as CEO of the Post Office from 2012 to 2019. During her tenure, the Post Office's Horizon computer system was found to have serious flaws, which resulted in thousands of postmasters being falsely accused of theft and fraud. Ms. Vennells resigned from her position in 2019 amid widespread criticism of her handling of the scandal.

Despite her involvement in the Horizon scandal, Ms. Vennells is an ordained Anglican priest. In 2017, she was interviewed for the position of Bishop of London, but was ultimately not selected for the role. Last month, sources told the BBC that Ms. Vennells had been shortlisted for the position again.

The news of Ms. Vennells' shortlisting has been met with mixed reactions. Some have expressed concerns about her suitability for the role given her involvement in the Horizon scandal. Others have defended her, arguing that she has been a dedicated priest and community leader.

The decision on whether or not to appoint Ms. Vennells as Bishop of London ultimately rests with the Church of England. The Church has not yet commented on the shortlist.
